Investigating Schiele's distinctive contribution to the evolution of Austrian Expressionism, this catalogue presents a notable selection of portraits, nudes, landscapes and still lifes by the celebrated Viennese artist (1890-1918), featuring fine color reproductions of some 80 watercolors and drawings and 22 paintings culled from more than 50 international collections. A biographical chronology and detailed critical commentaries on most of the exhibited works are supplemented by an overview of Schiele's formal and thematic concerns and an account by Comini of her meetings during the 1960s with members of the artist's family and several of his sitters.
