Surveying the career of a celebrated Italian artist whose individualistic, serio-comic oeuvre bears affinities to Art Brut, Surrealism and Pop art, this two-volume catalogue presents six critical essays and fine illustrations of more than 150 paintings, collages, sculptures and prints produced by Baj (b. 1924) from 1951 to 1993, including iconoclastic caricatures composed of found materials such as rope and printed fabric, semi-abstract collage depictions of furniture, sculptures created from Lego blocks and other toys, and many narrative works featuring grotesque totemic figures and kitsch-like nudes.
