URS LUTHI. Bonner Kunstverein, Bonn, 1993. Organized in association with Galerie im Stadthaus, Klagenfurt et al. Published in association with Ritter Verlag, Klagenfurt. 264 pp. with 186 ills. (94 col.). 26 x 19 cm. LC 94-147856 ISBN 3854151225 In German; four essays also in English.
Surveys the individualistic oeuvre of noted Swiss artist Luthi (b. 1947) through a presentation of nearly 100 diverse paintings, photographs and sculptures dating from 1966 to 1993, including many of the provocative self-portrait photographs that dominated the artist's work during the 1970s as well as realistic depictions of nudes overpainted with stick figures, bronze castings of the artist's head and ironically romantic seascapes. Four critical essays discuss the interrelationship of conceptual and emotional elements in Luthi's work, his subversion of artistic and social conventions, and the significance of his transition from photography to painting in the 1980s.
