OP GUNTER BRUS: LIMITE DU VISIBLE (Gunter Brus: The Limit of the Visible). Centre Georges Pompidou, Musee national d'art moderne/Centre de creation industrielle, Paris, 1993. Contemporains: Monographies. 296 pp. with 151 ills. (46 col.). 21 x 17 cm. ISBN 2858507309 In French; interview with the artist and essay also in English.
Surveying the provocative graphic work of an Austrian artist best known for the radical body-art performances he staged while a member of the Vienna Actionists in the 1960s, this catalogue presents color reproductions of some 40 drawings produced by Brus (b. 1938) from 1970 to 1992, many featuring symbolic images of distorted human figures or scenes of sexual violence. Illustrated with numerous additional works, a lengthy critical essay examining the philosophical and aesthetic principles informing Brus's disturbing oeuvre is supplemented by an interview with the artist and two of his literary texts.
