Centro San Giorgio in Poggiale, Bologna, 1992. Organized in association with Regione Emilia-Romagna, Assessorato all'Urbanistica, Cultura e Beni Culturali et al. Published by Alinea Editrice, Florence. 304 pp. with 362 ills. (113 col.). 24 x 22 cm. LC 93-159197 Bilingual in Italian and English.
Surveying avant-garde, anti-modernist trends in contemporary European architecture and city planning, this catalogue features photographs, plans and drawings of some 100 urban projects and individual structures designed over the past two decades by Leon Krier, Quinlan Terry, Maurice Culot, Demetri Porphyrios, Rob Krier, Paolo Portoghesi, Terry Farrell and scores of other architects and firms whose works reflect diverse vernacular and classical traditions. Concise descriptions of the projects (many of them unrealized) augment seven essays advocating the revitalization of traditional architectural styles and the implementation of socially responsible and environmentally sensitive planning principles. (More than half of the works showcased in this catalogue are also documented in Building Classical: A Vision of Europe and America, Worldwide 24451.)
