Reexamining the career and achievements of a Swiss-born Italian painter often regarded as the most original of Caravaggio's immediate followers, this catalogue presents full-page reproductions and detailed analyses of twelve paintings attributed to Serodine, seven works by Gramatica and his studio, and two canvases each by Guerrieri and Borgianni. Accompanied by illustrations of additional pieces by Serodine, two essays include a discussion of stylistic affinities between his naturalist oeuvre and the works of his contemporaries and a reevaluation of the artist's early development in the light of a new hypothesis regarding the date of his birth.
