Published in the U.S.A. by Harry N. Abrams, Inc., New York. 464 pp. (12 foldout) with 594 ills. (555 col.). 34 x 26 cm. LC 93-1141 ISBN 0810936429 In English.
Illuminating the previously obscure period of Amedeo Modigliani's career in Paris from 1906 to 1914, this catalogue features excellent reproductions of some 450 never-before published drawings from the collection of French physician Alexandre (1881-1968), a close friend and the principal patron of the renowned Italian painter and sculptor (1884-1920) prior to the outbreak of World War I. An extensive and well-illustrated account of Modigliani's early career based primarily on Alexandre's reminiscences and correspondence prefaces an eleven-part thematic presentation of the drawings, which include portraits, nudes, studies for sculptural works and sketches of theater and circus performers.
