Highlights the origins and divergent forms of current landscape photography in Italy through a presentation of 400 images by 13 contemporary artists (ranging from cityscapes and studies of factory interiors to views of mining sites and the Great Wall of China) and a correspondingly diverse selection of some 200 works by seven earlier photographers that includes modernist compositions of the 1930s by Florence Henri, documentary studies by Walker Evans, close-up depictions of walls and graffiti produced by Antonio Migliori in the 1970s and conceptual pieces by Luigi Ghirri. Good reproductions of the exhibited photographs are accompanied by a lengthy analysis of traditional and modern treatments of the landscape, discussions of the influential works of Migliori and Ghirri, and commentaries by many of the featured artists.
