VITO ACCONCI: THE CITY INSIDE US. Ed. by Peter Noever. Osterreichisches Museum fur angewandte Kunst, Vienna, 1993. 196 pp. with 163 ills. (87 col., one foldout). 28 x 21 cm. ISBN 3900688214 Bilingual in German and English.
Prefaced with detailed documentation of a monumental installation by Acconci that transformed the Museum's main gallery into a maze of tilting and intersecting planes, this catalogue presents a well-illustrated survey of the innovative body of work created by the noted American artist (b. 1940) from 1976 to 1992. Commentaries by Acconci on many of the featured pieces (which range from futuristic furniture objects and scale models of unconventional landscape designs to a telescoping mobile home and a "housing complex" composed of junked cars) are augmented by two interviews with the artist and a critical essay discussing his inventive critiques of political, social and architectural traditions.
