This catalogue features an excellent pictorial presentation of 32 paintings produced by renowned British artist Bacon (1909-1992) from 1945 to 1988, including eight of his most important triptychs along with other key works, only four of which were also included in the earlier 1993 Bacon retrospective mounted in Lugano (Worldwide 23953). Five critical essays trace the course of the artist's career through analyses of the exhibited paintings, discuss the character and sources of his imagery, evaluate his explorations of photographic effects, and analyze his work in the context of British painting traditions.
