Presents an extensive review of the innovative oeuvre of Greek-born artist Panayiotis Vassilakis Takis (b. 1925), a leading figure since the 1950s in the development of kinetic art forms who explores the natural forces of gravity, magnetism and electromagnetism in diverse works that include sculptures composed of flickering mercury lamps mounted on tall vibrating rods, changing patterns of iron filings in magnetic fields, sound-generating installations and large-scale pendulum constructions. Along with good illustrations of the exhibited pieces and photographs documenting public sculptures by the artist and previous exhibitions of his work, the catalogue features five critical essays, an interview with Takis and substantial excerpts from his autobiographical writings.
