This scholarly catalogue documents a representative selection of some 50 paintings and drawings by German artist Zick (1730-1797) while also illustrating and analyzing 31 oil sketches and preparatory drawings related to frescoes produced by the prominent Late Baroque painter for churches in southwestern Germany. Seven detailed essays include a biographical text, discussions of Zick's stylistic development and the influence on his work of Rembrandt and other Dutch artists, a review of his achievements as a fresco painter, and examinations of his major painting cycles and decorative projects in Swabia.
