Surveying the abstract oeuvre of noted German artist Freundlich (1878-1943), a member of avant-garde groups in Germany and Paris whose vibrantly hued geometric compositions were condemned by the Nazis, this catalogue presents reproductions of some 40 paintings, gouaches, pastels and sculptures produced by Freundlich from 1911 to 1943 while also documenting 68 diverse works by Ernst, Klee, Picasso, Schwitters, Gris, Kandinsky, Arp and some 30 other associates of the artist. Two short critical essays are supplemented by excerpts from Freundlich's writings.
