Accompanying a retrospective overview of the work of Lithuanian-born artist Pinchus Kremegne, a prominent painter of the School of Paris, this catalogue presents excellent full-page reproductions of 70 expressionistic landscapes, portraits, figure studies and still lifes produced from 1913 to 1962. Three essays (two reprinted) examine the distinctive features of Kremegne's oeuvre, trace the course of his artistic development through discussions of individual paintings, and describe his close association with Chaim Soutine during their early years in Montparnasse.
