Rubenshuis, Kunsthistorische Musea van de Stad Antwerpen, Antwerp, 1993. Published in association with Snoeck-Ducaju & Zoon, Ghent. 256 pp. with 239 ills. (23 col.). 33 x 25 cm. Illuminates Rubens's teaching methods and studio practices through a presentation of approximately 100 drawings from the Rubens Cantoor in Copenhagen, a remarkable collection consisting of some 500 copies of anatomical sketches and figure studies produced after works by Rubens primarily by his little-known student Willem Panneels (ca. 1605-1634). Prefaced by an examination of the origins and significance of the collection and a chronicle of Panneels's career, the scholarly catalogue provides reproductions of the featured Cantoor drawings (along with some 20 original compositions by Rubens and more than 40 related prints and drawings) arranged in 23 thematic groups, each accompanied by a critical essay.
