SEAN SCULLY: THE CATHERINE PAINTINGS. Carter Ratcliff et al. Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, 1993. 112 pp. with 53 ills. (47 col.). 28 x 25 cm. ISBN 092986509X In English.
Showcasing an ongoing series of paintings made up of single works selected annually by Scully (b. 1945) as particularly significant in the progression of his oeuvre, this catalogue presents fine reproductions of 14 large-scale canvases produced by the Dublin-born American artist from 1979 to 1992 along with 20 related watercolors, most of the pieces composed of expressively rendered configurations of striped panels. Three critical essays examine formal aspects of the Catherine paintings (named after the artist's wife) and offer comparative analyses of Scully's works and the abstractions of Mondrian, Pollock and other painters.
