Showcasing the recently restored bronze sculptural group created by Andrea del Verrocchio (ca. 1435-1488) for the exterior of the church of Orsanmichele, this catalogue presents extensive pictorial documentation of the monumental statues before, during and after cleaning along with illustrations of additional works by the renowned Florentine artist and of related pieces by Donatello, Ghiberti, Filippo Lippi and other figures. A detailed account of preliminary technical analyses of the Christ and St. Thomas supplements five scholarly essays discussing the production and art historical significance of the work, the three-year restoration of the sculptures, the history of Orsanmichele, and the innovative casting techniques developed in Verrocchio's workshop.
