Accompanying the first major retrospective of O'Keeffe's work to be exhibited outside the United States, this catalogue features a representative array of 65 paintings and 24 watercolors and drawings by the celebrated American artist (1887-1986), including early figure studies and cityscapes as well as many of her acclaimed abstracted images of floral and landscape forms. Fine full-page reproductions of the featured works are accompanied by a lengthy critical evaluation of O'Keeffe's oeuvre that emphasizes the distinctively American mode of modernism she pioneered, discussing the origins of her primary motifs, the reception and interpretation of her imagery, and the significance of the major transitions in her career.
