Thoroughly reviewing the oeuvre of German abstract painter Fruhtrunk (1923-1982), a major figure in the postwar concrete art movement, this catalogue features excellent full-page reproductions of 54 canvases dating from 1954 to 1982, many of the works composed of diagonal or vertical bands of vibrant, contrasting colors. Ten texts illustrated with numerous additional pieces include a critical discussion of Fruhtrunk's formative years, examinations of his primary motifs and his achievements as a teacher, a survey of his designs for interior and architectural decorations, and the transcript of a 1981 address in which the artist elucidates his aesthetic and philosophical concerns.
