Accompanying an important exhibition assembled from more than 90 international collections, this massive catalogue showcases 53 paintings and some 30 drawings and prints by Titian (ca. 1488-1576), 18 paintings attributed to Giorgione, and nearly 200 paintings, drawings and prints by Bellini, Sebastiano del Piombo, Lotto, Palma Vecchio, Tintoretto, Veronese, Bassano and some 20 other 16th-century Venetian artists. Excellent color reproductions and lengthy individual analyses of the works are accompanied by nine scholarly texts that illuminate the course of Venetian painting over the period through examinations of key aspects of Titian's long career and influential oeuvre and through discussions of such topics as Lotto's work in Venice and the controversial relationship of Giorgione's paintings to canvases by the young Titian.
