Surveying the modernist oeuvre of celebrated Brazilian landscape architect Burle Marx (b. 1909), this well-illustrated catalogue showcases some 70 residential and public gardens designed since the late 1930s for sites in South America, Europe and the United States, many of the projects integrating tropical flora into bold organic and geometric motifs. Pictorial documentation of the featured designs is augmented by reproductions of 66 abstract paintings, drawings, prints and other works by Burle Marx, two critical essays, a biographical text, a historical overview of Brazilian landscape design, and a description of the architect's botanical "workshop".
