Comprehensively reviewing the achievements of renowned Dutch architect and designer Rietveld, best known for his Red-Blue chair (1918) and the Schroder House in Utrecht (1924), this substantial catalogue documents with photographs, drawings and plans an array of 681 works, including more than 200 furniture pieces, some 230 chiefly residential buildings, and a wide range of interior, exhibition and graphic designs. A concise critical overview of Rietveld's contributions to modernist architecture and design is augmented by numerous commentaries on the individual projects and six texts by the architect in which he discusses the rationalist and functionalist principles central to his work.
