OP HENRI LAURENS: RETROSPECTIVE. Musee d'art moderne de la Communaute Urbaine de Lille, Villeneuve d'Ascq, 1992. Published in association with Reunion des musees nationaux, Paris. 304 pp. with 285 ills. (175 col.). 31 x 23 cm. LC 93-155133 ISBN 2711826872 In French.
Documenting 90 sculptures and constructions by Laurens (1885-1954) along with some 70 of his collages, drawings, prints and book illustrations, this catalogue presents a major review of the oeuvre of the important French sculptor that highlights many of the early Cubist compositions for which he is best known as well as numerous examples of the curvilinear bronze nudes he produced during the 1930s and 40s. Focused mainly on Laurens's career prior to 1930 and on his involvement with the Cubist movement, eight well-illustrated essays address such topics as the close relationship between his sculptures and his works on paper, his set designs for a 1924 Cocteau ballet, and the sculptural pieces he created for architectural settings.
