Thoroughly examining the innovative, socially engaged designs of German architect Gunter Behnisch (b. 1922), this catalogue features fine pictorial documentation and detailed descriptions of five key projects dating from 1963 to 1992, including university and grammar school buildings, the celebrated complex created for the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, and drawings and models for Bonn's new parliamentary buildings. Ten essays discussing the architectural and social ideals reflected in Behnisch's public projects and appraising individual buildings are accompanied by an illustrated chronology of more than 100 structures designed by his firm since 1954.
