Presenting works produced over the past decade by six German photographers linked by the formal objectivity of their styles, this catalogue features full-page reproductions of some 55 images that include serial studies of industrial structures by the Bechers, arrangements of picture fragments and texts by Gerz, views of the night sky by Ruff, close-up portraits of monks and nuns by Fischer and photographs of stiffly posed soldiers by Thiel. An introductory essay linking the subtly disquieting mood of the photographs to the traditions of German Romanticism is augmented by critical texts examining the techniques and themes of the featured artists.
