MATHIAS GOERITZ, 1915-1990: EL ECO -- BILDER, SKULPTUREN, MODELLE (Mathias Goeritz, 1915-1990: El Eco -- Paintings, Sculptures, Models). Akademie der Kunste, Berlin, 1992. 524 pp. with 418 ills. (123 col.). 23 x 23 cm. ISBN 3883319678 In German.
An extensive review of the multifaceted oeuvre of Goeritz, a German-born artist, architect and teacher who spent the last four decades of his life in Mexico, this substantial catalogue presents illustrations of some 100 art works (primarily monumental architectonic public sculptures and stylistically diverse abstract paintings) along with numerous photographs and models of his primary architectural projects, among them the El Eco Experimental Museum in Mexico City (1953) and the Saltiel Community Center in Jerusalem (1980). A selection of Goeritz's theoretical writings and several reprinted critical texts augment ten essays that include a detailed account of the artist's career in Europe and Mexico, evaluations of his architectural and sculptural works, and discussions of such topics as his concept of "emotional architecture" and his role in the Spanish avant garde during the 1940s.
