Complementing Reyes y mecenas (Worldwide 23553), issued to document the 1992 Toledo exhibition devoted to the flourishing of Spanish Renaissance culture under Ferdinand (1452-1516) and Isabella (1451-1504), this scholarly catalogue presents a diverse array of some 220 paintings, sculptures, manuscripts, liturgical pieces and decorative objects, including many works originally presented in the Spanish show as well as selections from Austrian museums that illuminate the life and art patronage of Maximilian I (1459-1519). Fine reproductions and substantial analyses of the thematically arranged works are prefaced by five essays previously published in the Toledo catalogue.
