OYVIND FAHLSTROM. Institut Valencia d'Art Modern, Centre Julio Gonzalez, Valencia, 1992. 152 pp. with 77 ills. (63 col.). 36 x 30 cm. ISBN 8478908528 Bilingual in Spanish and English (entries in Spanish only).
Surveying the idiosyncratic, politically engaged oeuvre of noted Swedish artist and poet Fahlstrom (1928-1976), this large-format catalogue presents full-page illustrations of more than 50 paintings, drawings, sculptures and other works dating from 1953 to 1976, ranging from early pictographic abstractions to photo-based collages with movable elements, multifaceted narrative works based on comic-strip and graffiti-like images, and Pop-influenced installations of cutout figures produced following the artist's move to New York in 1961. Six diverse texts that include discussions of Fahlstrom's concrete poetry, social concerns and inventive techniques are accompanied by a selection of his poems and his writings on artistic, personal and political themes.
