Documenting the first significant exhibition devoted to the drawings of noted Swiss artist Jean-Etienne Liotard (1702-1789), this catalogue presents fine reproductions of some 150 works encompassing vivid portraits of European aristocrats, studies of Turkish dignitaries and court figures produced during the artist's sojourn in Constantinople, and a selection of expressive self- portraits. Lengthy commentaries on the featured works are supplemented by an introductory discussion of Liotard's international career and a comprehensive catalogue of his drawings.
