Presents an ambitious international survey of social and political satire in art from Schongauer to Sempe, featuring more than 300 diverse prints, drawings and other works by some 120 artists, among them Arcimboldo, Gillray, Callot, Busch, Cruikshank, Goya, Topor, Daumier, Feininger and Heartfield. Thematically arranged illustrations and concise descriptions of the exhibited works are prefaced by four essays reviewing the traditions of satire in art and discussing such topics as German political caricature and the early history of the comic strip.
