NIKI DE SAINT PHALLE. Pontus Hulten. Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, Bonn, 1992. Published in association with Verlag Gerd Hatje, Stuttgart. 312 pp. with 500 ills. (266 col.). 39 x 26 cm. ISBN 3775705821 In English.
Presenting a fine pictorial survey of the unconventional oeuvre of French sculptor Saint Phalle (b. 1930), this catalogue features full-page reproductions of nearly 100 diverse works dating from 1953 to 1992, including expressive early reliefs composed of plaster and found objects as well as many of the exuberantly painted large-scale polyester sculptures of surreal female figures for which the artist is best known. A concise introductory essay and a series of seven autobiographical texts by Saint Phalle accompany hundreds of illustrations documenting the artist's multifaceted career, from her "shooting paintings" of the 1960s to her film productions and her work throughout the 1980s on the design of a "fantasy" sculpture park in Tuscany.
