Surveys a diverse array of provocative installations, performance pieces, drawings, paintings and other works (many incorporating sexual or scatological imagery) produced since 1978 by American artist Kelley (b. 1954), ranging from displays of stuffed toy animals and a series of cartoon-like drawings of garbage to a gallery of large-scale monochromatic portraits of major figures in Western cultural history. The well-illustrated catalogue includes three concise critical texts (two reprinted), a selection of the artist's writings, and two previously published interviews in which Kelley discusses the social and artistic issues addressed in his work and his frequent use of "low" art forms.
