Accompanying the largest of the exhibitions mounted to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the death of Piero della Francesca (ca. 1416-1492), this scholarly catalogue features reproductions and detailed documentation of 91 panel paintings, frescoes, sculptures, illuminated manuscripts, architectural drawings and decorative objects created for the Montefeltro rulers of Urbino and for other central Italian courts by Piero and by such artists as Paolo Uccello, Giovanni Santi, Luca della Robbia, Girolamo di Giovanni and Antonio Alberti. Nearly 50 essays include discussions of Piero's career, his theories of perspective, and his influence on Luca Signorelli and other artists as well as descriptions of the cultural milieu of the Urbino court, developments in architecture during the period, and the use of computers in the restoration of several of Piero's paintings.
