JACQUES SARAZIN: SCULPTEUR DU ROI, 1592-1660 (Jacques Sarazin: Sculptor to the King, 1592-1660). Musee du Noyonnais, Noyon, 1992. Published in association with Reunion des musees nationaux, Paris. 152 pp. with 162 ills. 24 x 22 cm. ISBN 2711826643 In French.
Accompanying the first major exhibition devoted to Sarazin, an important figure in the development of 17th-century French classicism, this scholarly catalogue presents nearly 30 sculptures and reliefs by the artist (among them terra-cotta models for the celebrated caryatids he created for the Louvre's Pavillon de l'Horloge and a series of portrait busts of Christ and the Apostles) as well as a selection of his preparatory drawings and 15 prints after his work by Michel Dorigny (ca. 1617-1665) and Pierre Daret (ca. 1604-1675). Prefaced by a detailed chronicle of Sarazin's life and career, nine texts include discussions of the artist's affiliation with Vouet, his decorative schemes for important architectural projects and funerary monuments, the religious themes central to his work, and his most notable students and collaborators.
