Documents a broad array of sculptural objects, collages, drawings, mixed-media compositions and other works from the previously unexhibited and unpublished collection of Rene Block, a noted art dealer who has been instrumental since the 1960s in promoting avant-garde and experimental works by Beuys, Paik, Kopcke, Vautier, Broodthaers, Polke, Filliou and many other artists associated with the Fluxus movement and Conceptual art. In addition to reproductions of many of the 500 works in the collection, the catalogue features an extensively illustrated chronology of exhibitions and performances at Block's galleries in Berlin and New York from 1964 to 1992 as well as essays discussing early Fluxus events in Germany and Denmark, the action pieces staged by Beuys at the Berlin gallery, and Block's role in promoting the experimental music of John Cage, David Tudor and other composers.
