Surveys the oeuvre of major Canadian painter James Wilson Morrice (1865-1924) through a presentation of works from an outstanding collection recently donated to the Gallery, featuring reproductions and individual discussions of some 80 canvases and oil sketches comprising atmospheric landscapes and coastal views, street scenes, figure studies and portraits executed in Canada, France (where the artist settled in 1892), Italy, England, North Africa and the West Indies. An introductory essay traces the life of Toronto art dealer Laing (1911-1991) and examines Morrice's stylistic development and working methods.
