Accompanying a major retrospective of works produced over the past 50 years by celebrated British artist Hamilton (b. 1922), this catalogue features some 100 diverse paintings, collages, installations, photographic compositions and other pieces which comprise innovative interpretations of traditional genres (including portraits, landscapes, still lifes and interiors) as well as examples of the artist's designs for technological equipment. Reproductions and informative individual discussions of the featured works are augmented by four substantial essays examining such topics as Hamilton's seminal links to Pop art, the relationship of his eclectic oeuvre to the work of Marcel Duchamp, and the evolution of his social and political concerns, most recently focused on the conflict in Northern Ireland.
