LOVIS CORINTH, 1858-1925: PRINTS, DRAWINGS AND WATERCOLORS FROM THE FAMILY COLLECTION/DRUCKGRAPHIK, ZEICHNUNGEN, AQUARELLE AUS DEM NACHLASS DES KUNSTLERS. National Academy of Design, New York, 1992. 274 pp. with 123 ills. (35 col.). 27 x 21 cm. LC 92-80389 Bilingual in English and German.
Focused on the lesser-known but significant body of prints produced in the 1910s and 20s by Corinth, a major German Impressionist whose late work is distinguished by its intensely Expressionist cast, this catalogue presents reproductions of and commentaries on 117 lithographs, etchings and drawings, including self-portraits, figure studies and interpretations of biblical, mythological and literary themes. Two introductory texts discuss the artistic dimensions of Corinth's graphic work, tracing the dramatic transition in his late oeuvre to the stroke he suffered in 1911 and to his absorption with spiritual and metaphysical concerns.
