Examining the "decadent" themes and decorative Art Nouveau-inspired style explored by French artist Mossa (1883-1971) during the first decade of the 20th century, this catalogue features color reproductions and analyses of 20 oils and more than 100 watercolors consisting primarily of interpretations of biblical, mythological and literary scenes, many dominated by enigmatic female figures and images of death. Two critical essays discuss Mossa's life and career, his status as a late Symbolist and the extensive use of literary references in his work.
