EVA HESSE: A RETROSPECTIVE. Helen A. Cooper et al. Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, 1992. Published in association with Yale University Press, New Haven. 254 pp. with 207 ills. (78 col.). 32 x 26 cm. LC 92-5605 ISBN 0300054890 In English.
Presenting more than 100 works produced by American sculptor Hesse (1936-1970) during her brief but influential career, this catalogue features fine illustrations of the artist's innovative abstractions (often incorporating rope, latex, fiber glass and other non-traditional materials), her serial Minimalist grid drawings, and many rarely exhibited sketches and early paintings. A detailed biographical chronology integrating extensive excerpts from Hesse's diaries and correspondence prefaces five critical essays discussing the formative years of her career, her links to such figures as Johns, LeWitt and Oldenburg, the personal quality of her sculptural approach and the significance of her work from a feminist perspective.
