JACKSON POLLOCK: "PSYCHOANALYTIC" DRAWINGS. Claude Cernuschi. Duke University Museum of Art, Durham, 1992. Published in association with Duke University Press, Durham. 158 pp. with 97 ills. (62 col.). 32 x 24 cm. LC 91-39716 ISBN 0822312506 In English.
Reexamines the interpretive controversies surrounding 83 drawings -- ranging from quick sketches of biomorphic forms to surrealistic compositions based on totemic motifs -- presented by Pollock (1912-1956) to his psychoanalyst in 1939 and 1940. A lengthy discussion of the legal dispute catalyzed by the original publication of the works in 1970 (Worldwide 6791) and of the efforts of Jungian psychologists to evaluate their significance is supplemented by individual explications of the drawings based on both art historical and psychological perspectives.
