JOHN LATHAM: ART AFTER PHYSICS. Museum of Modern Art, Oxford, 1991. Organized in association with Staatsgalerie, Stuttgart. Published in association with Edition Hansjorg Mayer, Stuttgart. 128 pp. with 57 ills. (43 col.). 34 x 24 cm. ISBN 0905836758 In English.
Surveys the influential career of pioneering British Conceptual and performance artist Latham (b. 1921), illustrating some 45 largely process-oriented works dating from the late 1950s to 1991, among them many of his well-known abstract painted reliefs embedded with burnt and mutilated books as well as examples of his spray paintings and assemblages of found objects. Two theoretical texts by Latham supplement three critical essays which examine his oeuvre in the context of his complex views on language, perception and the artist's role in society.
