Features terra-cotta maquettes and models for Baroque sculptures and copies of Renaissance works collected by 18th-century Venetian patron Filippo Farsetti and now part of the holdings of the Hermitage in St. Petersburg, presenting illustrations and individual discussions of 69 portraits and studies for mythological and religious subjects by Bernini, Algardi, Maderno and some 20 other mainly 17th-century Italian artists. Two introductory essays discuss the history and character of the Farsetti collection, which was studied by Canova during his early years in Venice.
