Documenting an exceptional private collection of 54 paintings, 17 drawings, nine sculptures and several other pieces recently bequeathed to the Museum, this catalogue features fine reproductions of late 19th- and early 20th-century works by such major artists as Degas, Cezanne, Gauguin, Bonnard, Matisse, Rouault, Picasso and Gris along with postwar paintings by Albers, Louis, Bacon and Noland. A short text sketching the history of the collection supplements substantial individual commentaries on the works, many of them previously unexhibited. A revised edition of this catalogue was published in 2012 (see Worldwide 76963).
