This well-illustrated catalogue presents full-page reproductions of 93 paintings and some 20 wooden reliefs and assemblages by renowned Uruguayan artist Joaquin Torres-Garcia (1874-1949), including classical fresco compositions and expressive cityscapes from the 1920s, Constructivist abstractions reflecting the artist's involvement with the Cercle et Carre group during his sojourn in Paris in the late 20s and early 30s, and examples of the distinctive ideographic grid tableaux he produced following his return to Montevideo. Two essays describing the artist's development and primary interests are supplemented with a detailed biographical chronology.
