Documents an unusual body of collaborative sculptural works by Ahearn (b. 1951) and Torres (b. 1960) consisting of painted life casts of the artists' predominantly black and Hispanic neighbors in the South Bronx, many of the works taking the form of relief murals mounted in public spaces throughout the area. Including reproductions of more than 70 sculptures dating from 1979 to 1991 and photographs documenting the production, subjects and sites of the pieces, the catalogue features three essays discussing the course of the ongoing project, the artists' extensive interactions with the community, and the social and artistic issues addressed in their work.
