Abrams, Inc., New York. 246 pp. with 233 ills. (28 col.). 29 x 23 cm. LC 91-15177 ISBN 0810964074 In English.
Presenting a selection of nearly 200 works drawn from an important private collection, this catalogue documents a broad array of predominantly sculptural objects that encompasses numerous bronze statues of Hindu and Buddhist deities, Gandharan stone dishes, decorative art objects and portable shrines, and an outstanding group of Javanese religious and secular bronzes dating from the 9th to the 15th century. Lengthy commentaries providing scholarly analyses of the featured pieces (many of them previously unpublished) are supplemented by concise texts describing individual groups of works and by a historical overview of Indonesian art.
