Providing a good pictorial overview of the pluralistic trends in recent residential, commercial and civic designs and illustrating as well the diverse techniques utilized in contemporary architectural draughtsmanship, this catalogue features fine reproductions of an array of 132 pen-and-ink, watercolor and computer-aided plans, elevations, perspectives and theoretical compositions donated to the Avery by more than 120 architects, most of them American. An introductory essay examines the varied methodologies and objectives represented by the exhibited designs and concise statements by the architects accompany many of the illustrated works, which include drawings by such noted figures as Michael Graves, Mario Botta, Charles Moore, Thom Mayne, Aldo Rossi, Peter Eisenman and Richard Meier.
