Continuing the Carnegie's noted series of triennial exhibitions of contemporary art, the show documented in this two-volume publication encompassed diverse site-specific and multi-media installations, paintings, sculptures, photographs and other works by 43 international artists, among them Michael Asher, Christian Boltanski, Sophie Calle, Ilya Kabakov, Mike Kelley, Louise Lawler and Giulio Paolini. The catalogue includes statements by or about the artists, photographs of the installed exhibition, an essay explicating the featured works, and four texts discussing the character of current art, the traditions and influence of museum architecture, and the artistic climate in Russia.
