Published to coincide with the first major exhibition devoted to Nicola Filotesio, called Cola dell'Amatrice (ca. 1480-ca. 1559), this volume extensively analyzes 33 paintings, frescoes, polyptychs and decorative cycles; 29 sheets from a recently discovered sketchbook; and 16 architectural projects by a High Renaissance artist and architect who was active primarily outside the major art centers of his time. Includes scholarly commentaries on the featured works and lengthy texts scrutinizing the artist's development as a painter (strongly influenced by Raphael and the Ferrara school), evaluating his achievements as a draughtsman and architect, and discussing the recent restoration of five of his paintings.
